Question about hair?

Hello again!
I'll talk about my hair now. Okay, usually I straighten my hair, so while seeing how beautiful Kaoru is in his wavy hair, I want to have kind of.. wavy hair.. But I can't do waves with a straightening iron, or.. I can do curls, but they don't look as I want them. So.. I found this kind of thing:

Can I make waves as in the picture below with it? What do you think?

I must say that I really love that hairstyle, so I would love to try something similar. It would be so nice to change myself a little bit whenever I feel for it. I can't do that now, because curling hair with and straightening iron just makes you look like.. No good.  I look like an ugly chick when doing it.
